Atelier Aurélie is a small atelier envisioned as our dream workplace for painterly endeavours, although the project is presented here as a sculptor's atelier. Designed by Sanning Arkitekter, modeled in Blender, textured with Substance Painter and Megascans, and rendered in Unreal Engine 4.
For us, a yet far-fetched although inspiring vision is to imagine a place for us to again commence painting with oils – an activity ceased with the onset of baby life – beyond the otherwise fully sufficient confines of our compact home. To that purpose, we envisioned an atelier, architecturally divided in two; essentially one volume filled with natural light for artistic production, and the other more secluded and housing a small kitchen and bed.
Having modeled and textured the building, as well as placing it in a landscape we created with Quadspinner Gaea, we used Unreal Engine 4 to render a short clip of it, mimicking the camera movement of a drone shot. The final 4K render took only two hours on a single consumer grade GPU for the 220 frames needed for the 9 seconds long clip, a magnificent technical feat thanks to the new Movie Render Queue in Unreal Engine 4.25.
This project uses HDRI – Nobel Park Arboretum (Late Winter; Midday) for its environmental lighting, utilized as an Unreal Engine SkyLight.
